Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times - With a view to current social movements all over the world, we investigated the anatomy and design of protests in this project. The analysis was focused on three layers of protest: politics, space and digital mediality. Our team was examining the incidents in Hong Kong, with a focus on the protests from 2019 until mid 2020, strongly influenced by the umbrella movement in 2014.

During our research, we discovered the protestors elaborated strategies of using argots to communicate savely on digital media. Encrypting protest vocabulary protected themselfes from being prosecuted or even arrested by the pro-Peking government. The evolved words expose how the protestors feel about each other, the authorities, and their actions. By creating a 3D world, we translated the social relations and emotional involvement of the movement into metaphorical images.
